TNX for
posting the track listing of PT’s
LIFEHOUSE acetate double.
This thing served as the master for the famous „Pure & Easy“ vinyl
bootleg (though the guys at TMOQ omitted three numbers, unfortunately).
I share
the idea that the aceate must have served as the band’s
musical master and that these numbers formed the major bulk of songs PT
and the band must have considered for inclusion for their
LIFEHOUSE
double album (a double like the acetate). However, they obviously
didn’t confine themselves to these 14 tracks. During their April to
June sessions at Stargroves and Olympic Studios, they recorded tracks
that were not featured on this acetate double: Let’s See Action,
Don’t Even Know Myself, and Naked Eye.
The
non-LIFEHOUSE latter two
seem to have been considered as fitting
into the whole concept, perhaps as an afterthought or „fillers“?.
Naked Eye was even recorded on the same day as Getting in Tune!
There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that the remaining demoed
tracks Join Together, The Relay and Put The Money Down were considered
for the double album, in Summer 1971. Strange that they seem to have
harked back on pre-LIFEHOUSE
numbers rather than using some more Pete
demos for this idea/project.
Anyway,
I somehow got the impression Glyn Johns must have put a halt on
the recording procedures before the entire material for the 4 vinyl
sides was recorded. To my knowledge, a total of 15 tracks were recorded
during these sessions, totalling some 65-70 minutes (incl.the
lost/destroyed band recording of „Mary“).
This would have been a bit too short for a double album, esp. as – in
contrary to Tommy - there was still a wealth of first-class PT demos
that could easily have been used. So, maybe they band perhaps thought
of recording some more tracks in June but didn’t get to doing that
after having dropped the
LIFEHOUSE idea in favour of the Who’s Next
single album concept.
Since
one of our fellow groupers said he’d like to make his own
LIFEHOUSE CD, here is my
take on reconstructing the band’s most
grandiose cloud-cuckoo-land.
In case anyone on the group has comments or corrections, I’de be
happy to hear from you.
